Marble Explorer

Game Overview

Marble Explorer was a collaborative project I and a team of 20 worked on for 6 weeks as part of a university project. The game came in second place at our Summer showcase event which was judged by indistinct experts. We feel as though it was a major success and so want to share wish to share it.
During the development I was a junior designer along with others ensuring the game was a fun and repayable experience. I decried to focus on the level design of the game as was responsible for the last level of the game which features a 3 lane system for the player to choose from.
The game finished 2nd in our uni summer showcase for which our team was very pleased and happy with.

My role

During development of Marble Explorer I started out as a character designer and quickly began gathering images for what I/we wanted the charter to look like with its tone and feel. However after some initial mock ups for characters I transitioned to become a level designer as this was something I feel much more comfortable doing for a group task. As I transitioned later during development there was a 'problem' of some levels being already being blocked-out and iterated upon. Knowing this and feedback from them I wanted my level to play completely different to the rest, so I came up with the idea of creating a 3 lane course map (Seen in gallery).

After multiple blockouts and play through with feedback for where traps and abilities should go, I had a finished map with everything we needed inside. It played right, felt good and most importantly 'had not bugs'.

Review

Reviews for my level where overwhelming positive with some of the judges selecting it as the 'best' map in the game. This made me extremely happy as I solely put my time into creating this level and it came back as excellent.
